  1. Population Genomics Concepts, Approaches and Applications Om P. Rajora, "Population Genomics: Concepts, Approaches and Applications" English | ISBN: 3030045870 | 2019 | 822 pages | PDF, EPUB | 69 MB Population genomics has revolutionized various disciplines of biology including population, evolutionary, ecological and conservation genetics, plant and animal breeding, human health, medicine and pharmacology by allowing to address novel and long-standing questions with unprecedented power and accuracy. It employs large-scale or genome-wide genetic information and bioinformatics to address various fundamental and applied aspects in biology and related disciplines, and provides a comprehensive genome-wide perspective and new insights that were not possible before. These advances have become possible due to the development of new and low-cost sequencing and genotyping technologies and novel statistical approaches and software, bioinformatics tools, and models. Population genomics is tremendously advancing our understanding the roles of evolutionary processes, such as mutation, genetic drift, gene flow, and natural selection, in shaping up genetic variation at individual loci and across the genome and populations; improving the assessment of population genetic parameters or processes such as adaptive evolution, effective population size, gene flow, admixture, inbreeding and outbreeding depression, demography, and biogeography; resolving evolutionary histories and phylogenetic relationships of extant, ancient and extinct species; understanding the genomic basis of fitness, adaptation, speciation, complex ecological and economically important traits, and disease and insect resistance; facilitating forensics, genetic medicine and pharmacology; delineating conservation genetic units; and understanding the genetic effects of resource management practices, and assisting conservation and sustainable management of genetic resources. This Population Genomics book discusses the concepts, approaches, applications and promises of population genomics in addressing most of the above fundamental and applied crucial aspects in a variety of organisms from microorganisms to humans. The book provides insights into a range of emerging population genomics topics including population epigenomics, landscape genomics, seascape genomics, paleogenomics, ecological and evolutionary genomics, biogeography, demography, speciation, admixture, colonization and invasion, genomic selection, and plant and animal domestication. This book fills a vacuum in the field and is expected to become a primary reference in Population Genomics world-wide. 2. Population Change and Rural Society Population Change and Rural Society By David L. Brown, William A. Kandel (auth.), William A. Kandel, David L. Brown (eds.) 2006 | 467 Pages | ISBN: 1402039115 | PDF | 7 MB CALVIN L. BEALE In considering how to introduce the subject of rural population change in st the 21 Century, I ?nd myself re?ecting on my own experience as a demographer for the U. S. Department of Agriculture. When I arrived at the Department, the post-World War II modernization of farming was well under way. Each year, my colleague Gladys Bowles and I had the unpopular task of announcing how much the farm population had decreased in the prior year. It was hard to say that the phenomenon was someone's fault. Dramatic reductions in labor requirements per unit of agricultural output were occurring everywhere and not just in the United States. But politically, blame had to be assigned, and whichever political party was not in the White House was certain to place the blame squarely on the current administration. The demographic consequences of this trend were major. In a 22-year period from 1941 to 1962, the net loss of farm population from migration and cessation of farming averaged over a million people per year. It took eight years after the war before an administration was willing to begin to talk about the need to diversify rural employment. By that time, farm residents had already become a minority of rural people. However, well into the 1970s, I continued to receive inquiries from people who still equated rural with farm or who could not envision what rural-nonfarm people did for a living. 3. Population Health Informatics Population Health Informatics: Driving Evidence-Based Solutions Into Practice Jones & Bartlett | English | 2018 | ISBN-10: 128410396X | 426 pages | PDF | 16.47 MB by Ashish Joshi (Author), Lorna Thorpe (Author), Levi Waldron (Author) Population Health Informatics addresses the growing opportunity to use technology to implement evidence-based solutions for the improvement of population health outcomes. While most health informatics texts take a hospital-centric approach, this innovative new first edition focuses on how to operationalize informatics solutions to address important public health challenges impacting individuals, families, communities, and the environment in which they live. Population Health Informatics uses a practical, step-by-step approach to implement evidence-based, data- driven population informatics solutions. Perfect for students of public health and other interdisciplinary fields with an interest in population health informatics, this book fulfills a key component of the new Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) recommendations for "Critical Content of the Core for a 21st Century MPH Degree." Key Features * Demonstrates how technology can be used at the intersection of clinical care and health sciences to strengthen efforts for preventive care at the population level. * Offers practical coverage of critical topics such as big data, cloud computing, mobile health, surveillance, and visualization-all from the perspective of the end user using simple, reader friendly language. * Uses a grassroots approach to technology interventions and solutions, providing students with a clear understanding of how to address the needs of various health technology stakeholders. 4. Population Geography Tools and Issues, Third Edition Population Geography : Tools and Issues, Third Edition by K. Bruce Newbold English | 2017 | ISBN: 1442265310 | 366 Pages | PDF | 7.67 MB This compact and accessible text provides a comprehensive, issue-oriented introduction to population geography. First grounding students in the fundamentals, Bruce Newbold then explains the tools and techniques commonly used to describe and understand population concepts using real-world issues and events. Drawing on both U.S. and international cases, he explores such pressing concerns as HIV/AIDS, international migration, refugee movements, fertility, mortality, resource scarcity, and conflict. Every chapter includes both methods and focus sections to provide a more in-depth discussion of the ideas and concepts developed in the book. In addition, a wide array of maps, tables, and figures illustrate and enhance the cases. Newbold highlights the geographical perspective-with its ability to provide powerful insights and bridge disparate issues-by emphasizing the roles of space and place, location, regional differences, and diffusion. Arguing that an understanding of population is essential to prepare for the future, this cogent text will provide upper-division undergraduates with a thorough grasp of the field.
